Historic Roswell

Just arrived home after a wonderful outing in Historic Roswell with our friends Damien and Courtney. We started off at the restaurant Roswell tap and then went on to have a glass of wine and dessert at a cute cafe near by. I love Georgia spring!

Longing For Weekend Mornings

Not much happening here, work, work, work. But it's Thursday! That means the weekend is around the corner! I have a three day weekend coming up when it's spring break for the kids, so excited! Until then, I'll dream of the breakfast we had last weekend. Yum...

Seedlings In The Window

I'm trying to grow some hot peppers in my window to later be able to plant them in my garden. I used an old coke bottle as a "green house" and it's working! In a few weeks I'll put it out in my garden and we'll see how it does.

Time In The Garden

This Sunday we went to the garden again. We planted some cucumbers and potatoes. The tomatoes, carrots and squash we planted a few weeks back is coming up nicely. I love my time in the garden, it's so relaxing!

Our sugar snap peas and beets are still growing from our winter plantings. We planted some carrots in between the beets a few weeks ago, we'll see how they will do with limited space.
We're using these beauties in tonight's dinner
Last years potatoes were to die for, let's hope these do as well as those

Flower Thief?

Yes. It is official, I think after tonight, I may become a flower thief . No, I didn't go into a store and steal flowers or anything. Although the thought has crossed my mind, flowers are so fun to have in your house, but they are so darn expensive! But no, I didn't become that kind of thief. I did however, after it was dark enough so no one could really see me or my hubby (yes, he was with me, if I was going to get caught, I wanted him with me..) run over to the retirement home next door and steal some flowers. The Hydrangeas are SO amazingly beautiful right now, and there are so many of them. I go by the retirement home every day and I have for the last week wanted to stop by and run into the yard and clip some to bring home. So tonight we did it. We felt so naughty, but come on, they wont miss a few of them, right? I wish I could have taken a picture of the bush, there are SO many of them, but it was too dark. But I did take some pictures of the flowers when we got home.

I can't believe it is already Saturday evening. Where does the weekends go? Oh well, Carpe Diem.

Hike

This weekend was absolutely gorgeous and we took advantage of the wonderful weather early on Sunday morning when we went out for a hike  on a trail close by our house.

I'm working a lot this week so I'm super tired and can't wait for this weekend.
I hope YOU are doing well.

Homemade Granola Recipe

I'm usually pretty bad at sticking to one breakfast for a long time when I tend to get tired of the same old thing morning after morning. But for the longest time now, I've been eating the same breakfast every day. It's been Vanilla flavored yogurt, strawberries, blueberries and granola. I use to buy a box of granola at the store every week, but then I found a recipe online for homemade granola that I absolutely love so now I will never buy another box at the store again! Since I love it so much I thought I'd share it with you. It's SO good I keep sneaking into the jar and stealing hand fulls of it every now and then...

Elin's Granola Recipe
(yes, I did find a recipe online, but I changed it to my liking, so I think it's okay to call it Elin's Granola Recipe....)

3 cups or 7 dl oatmeal (havregryn)
2 cups or 5 dl coconut flakes. (Here in the US I can only find the very finely shredded at Whole Foods. But it's worth the extra stop, because it's best with that kind.)
Any nuts you have in the pantry. My favorite nuts are walnuts, almonds and sunflower seeds. They are so good toasted.

1/4 cup + 1 Tablespoon or 3/4 dl brown sugar
4 1/2 Tablespoon canola oil
4 1/2 Tablespoon honey
1 1/2 Teaspoon vanilla
1/4 Teaspoon salt

Mix the oats, coconut and all the nuts together. Mix the rest of the ingredients and pour over the oatmeal mixture. I like to use my hands to really get everything evenly coated. Then take half of the mixture and put on a baking sheet and then into the oven on 325 degrees F (170 degrees Celsius) for 15 minutes. Remember to halfway through the 15 minutes stir the granola around. When 15 minutes are up remove the granola from the baking sheet and let cool and put the rest of the oatmeal mixture in the oven and do the same procedure.

I hope you try it, it's really SO good!

Herb Time!

I always plant some herbs in the garden at the in-laws, but I always end up needing herbs at our house and I don't really want to go all the way over there for some herbs. So yesterday I planted some herbs at the house. I had the seeds and the pots, so all I did was paint some chalkboard paint on the pots to be able to write on them. So come on herbs! Grow!

Now, time for dinner!
Peace out folks!

Applique Tuturiol

Okay, so I gave you all a sneak peak of my latest project, here is how I did it:

The little girl's name start with a M, so I found a M that I liked online and traced it. Yep, I don't have a printer, so I just put the paper up against my computer screen and voila, there's my M.

She loves horses, so I did the same thing there. Traced and cut out. Then I cut out the horse in one fabric and the M in another fabric.

Then I traced and cut out some Heat & Bond and lined it up with my fabric and placed it where I wanted it on my t-shirt and used my iron to iron in onto the shirt.

To make it a little more durable I used the zick zack stitch on my sewing machine around both the horse and the M.

Right before I "zick-zacked" around the M.

Finished product!

I bought two t-shirts but with the other one I decided to make something else. I cut out flowers from some pink fabric and then I "zick-zacked" around them and then I put two flowers on top of each other and took embroidery thread to make the circle in the middle to attach the flowers to the shirt. It turned out pretty cute!

Here are them both, finished.

This project was a lot of fun and easy. You can totally do it!

Gifts for a 3 year old

The little girl I'm babysitting is coming up on her 3rd b-day and instead of going out to buy her an expensive gift I went out and got two inexpensive t-shirts for 7 dollars and then I went home and personalized them. I'll show you how I did it in a longer post later on but I thought I'd give you sneak peak right now. One of them turned out like this:

Spring Time = Garden Time

Yes! Spring is here in GA and we're having absolutely gorgeous days here. It's so wonderful and I'm so excited that it's finally garden-time again!

Yesterday we went over to the garden and ended up spending all day there. We had some success over the winter with broccoli, radishes, lettuce, sugar snap peas and kale. We didn't get that big of a harvest, but it was still fun to try a fall/winter garden out this year. Yesterday we cleaned up remnants of that and put in some new stuff. We left the sugar snap peas because they are still doing great and we were able to pick some yesterday and more are coming.

My hubby inspecting the garden

Our sugar snap peas. I love the way they are climbing and it's so fun trying to find the peas.

A lot of planning has to be done before starting.

We bought some already started tomato and one pepper plants at the local nursery.
Today is going to be a beautiful day here again, but we'll be taking care of some house stuff.

I hope YOU are doing great!
