2:30

The time is 2:30 and my to do list now looks like this:

-Pay bills
-Exercise  (Yes, ya'll. I'm actually exercising these days. We found exercising videos for free On Demand, I love it. Let's hope I keep it up.)
-Oil change for my car
-New air filter for my car
-Laundry One load is done, about to get to the second one
-Clean car (It's disgusting at the moment. Can I blame it on the kids I babysit?? Yes, I can. It is all them)
-Organize Christians closet. (Don't worry, I'm not doing it for free, he has promised me a visit at the nail salon before we head to the beach.)
-Call the massage place in Florida to schedule couple massages. (yeah, I put that in there to make you guys jealous) I did, they are closed until tomorrow, so that one will be crossed tomorrow.
-Make dinner reservations in Apalachicola for June 3rd

Not so fun reading for YOU, but this helps me so here we go; I'll be back before you know it!

Memorial Day

Today is Monday and Memorial Day which means most people are off and are spending time with family or/and friends.

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. Service Members who died while in the military service.
On our agenda today:
11am-pool party with friends
3pm-late lunch/early dinner at the in-laws to celebrate memorial day and also to say good bye to my sister-in-law who's going to Italy for a study abroad trip over the summer
8pm-drive in movie with friends

I hope YOU are doing great!

Happy Mors Dag!!

Today is Mother's Day in Sweden and I SO wish I could be in Sweden and celebrate my awesome mother.

If I was at home I would make some cupcakes and coffee and pack a basket and surprise her at work and have a picnic on one of her breaks. I would also bring the hot and sunny weather to her so she could bask in the sun!

I love you mom!

cupcakes and carrots

Maybe not the most conventional mix but tonight that is exactly what I'm eating.

I have been working for this one family since the middle of March knowing that they would move in the beginning of June. I can't believe April and May went by so fast but tomorrow I'm working my last day. Kind of sad when I really adore the little three year old but I've decided instead of being sad we'll be celebrating getting to know each other over the past months with some homemade cupcakes! She loves anything sweet and always asks to have a "junk snack" after lunch but rarely gets it, but tomorrow she can have as many "junk snacks" a.k.a cupcakes as she want.

no one makes cupcakes like Leila

So, that means I'm eating cupcakes myself this evening, together with our newly harvested carrots. Yum Yum!

Carrots!

Our harvest today:

I know what I'll be munching on as a late night snack! (who am I kidding, I made a peach cobbler and homemade ice cream last night, so that is what I'll be munching on later tonight... But still, don't they look yummy!?)

Stop. Look. Think. Smile.

A while ago I posted about these magnetic words that we have on our fridge to help us with Christian's English. I'm not sure if it's helping or not, but they're up there and often when I'm filling up my big water bottle from our water dispenser on our fridge I make little sentences. I usually just write whatever comes to mind in that moment and sometimes when I stop in this busy thing we call life and actually read and think about the sentences I put up there I'm excited to see that they are usually about love and happiness. I like to think that it means that overall I'm a pretty happy little girl in this big and sometimes scary and confusing world. There are always going to be bad days in ones life, we all know that, but I like what I see up there on the fridge.

This is what I saw this morning when I stopped and looked at my little sentences:

dad and mom are in my heart

I appreciate my friends

Have a great Sunday!

beautiful start to this Saturday

Took a walk this morning and had breakfast/brunch and then we went on to buy our veggies at this local farmers market. Love it! A stand like this in Kräbäck maybe?

time in the kitchen..

....is one of the happiest time for me. I love the feeling of making something and although food is not my specialty when I prefer baking, I love the process of starting something from scratch and seeing the end product when finished. Last night I made a delicious dinner for us. I made Vadalia onion pie + a salad with caramelized walnuts and blue cheese dressing. I love Vadalia onion. So sweet. So tasty.

The onions were first grown near Vidalia, Georgia, in the early 1930s. It is an unusually sweet variety of onion, due to the low amount of sulfur in the soil in which the onions are grown. Mose Coleman is considered the person who discovered the sweet Vidalia Onion variety in 1931.
Georgia's state legislature passed the "Vidalia Onion Act of 1986" which authorized a trademark for "Vidalia Onions" and limits the production area to Georgia or any subset as defined by the state's Commissioner of Agriculture.

Oh how I want thee...

We're about to come up on me and my hubby's 5 (!) year anniversary and we are going down to Florida for a couple of nights to a place near Apalachicola and a bed and breakfast called Turtle Beach Inn. I can't wait and I am SO SO excited. We're going out for dinner for our anniversary date and I would love to wear something like this that night:

I WANT WANT this dress so badly.  Anthropologie $178

Shoes from "Nordstrom"

Also from "Nordstrom's"

Bangles from "Forever 21"

earrings from "Forever 21" as well..

I can just see myself wearing this on that special night... Ahh.. (I know, I know, but a girl can dream right?)

Other than that? I'm sick. A cold is taking hold of me and although I would like to take on things in the house, I'm about to crawl underneath my comforter in the couch and watch a movie.

A Southern Belle in the Making?

I'm not so sure, but at least I tried for my hubby tonight. I made fried chickin'! I started the process yesterday with marinating the chicken pieces in Buttermilk (which I think is just like Swedish "fil mjolk"!) and a bunch of delicious spices. Today we made homemade breadcrumbs mixed with the same spices as in the marinade and fried em' up in some peanut oil. Delicious! With it we boiled some corn on the cob and we also made a salad. So so so good, we were grinning from ear to ear!

Now we may make some ice cream and crawl up in the couch. We still have one Daim bar left from the big bunch my hubby brought back for me from Amsterdam. Some vanilla ice cream and Daim pieces, mmmm... Tastes almost like the Daim strut from back home. Makes me happy!

Yes, I'm back home in our house again. Babysitting is over for this time. It was quite alright, they are great kids to deal with, but I'm so happy to be back home!

Sleep tight from the Blue's

trott, trott och mer trott....

That is the Swedish lesson for today and it means: "tired, tired and more tired". It's Friday night and I just came "home" from driving all over Atlanta. I'm working overnight tonight and tomorrow night and I spent the afternoon fighting traffic while driving the boy + his friend to the mall and back. The girl is spending the day and evening with a friend so I have not even seen her yet today. I did get to have dinner with my hubby while the boys where being teenage "cool" and walking around the mall. Funny.

Last night we went to the garden to water and check on it. Everything is growing so well! I took some pictures:

Boring post today, but sometimes life is just that. Quite boring or uneventful.
Sleep tight everybody!

My day today..

...ended up like this:

  • I did not have to work overnight which equals joy!!
  • I had a much needed facial with my brother-in-law's girlfriend
  • I bought a new bikini for our anniversary trip to sunny Florida
  • I almost ran over a mommy duck with her little ducklings
  • Had a delicious chicken sandwich from Chic-fil-a. Yum!

bikini from Old Navy

to think I almost ran the little family over!! Yikes!

Over and out, Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite!

A Day In The Sun

So hot here in GA today. I probably should not say it, but it was almost too hot. Over 30 Celsius and it still is and it is almost 9pm. I spent the morning at the garden and I absolutely love being there. There something about seeing the seeds or seedlings you put down growing and doing well. Sometimes (this is going to sound so hippie, but oh well) when I'm done watering and pulling weeds I like to just sit there and watch it all and think or just relax and not think. I just love it. Today I picked a hand full of strawberries that I munched on while driving home. So sweet and delicious!

After that I spent some time at the pool and I managed to get some color without burning too much. Go Elin!

My hubby is at dinner with his work so I have been working on this project that I'll show you guys later if it turns out good. I have an idea for something, but I'll let ya'll know later on.

a little hint to what I'm fixin' with tonight... ;)

After today I will basically be working non-stop until Sunday at noon. I know it is good money and I should not complain but I'm kind of dreading it...

Mother's Day

Yesterday was, as you who live here in the US of A hopefully are aware of, Mother's Day and we spend all day at the in-laws celebrating my mother in law. It was a great day, we started it off with some breakfast, then church, then home for some snacks, then the Atlanta Botanical Gardens (LOVE LOVE LOVE their edible garden section)  before we ended the whole day with some turkey burgers (the most amazing ones ever!) and grilled veggies of all kind. A great day!

I made my mother in law a home made card which turned out pretty cute so I thought I show you guys.

Since I usually celebrate my mother on the Swedish Mother's Day I never sent anything to her, so this card is for you too if you read this. I really should have sent her something, my mother deserve to be treated to two Mother's Day's a year, really. :)

Have a great day!

pimp my frame?

Yes, that what was I did last night. We had Mexican and then I was fixin' with one of my old frames. I got this frame + picture from my Goddaughter when she was baptized last summer and when I changed the color of my bedroom walls I felt I had to paint the black frame into white. So I did that and then I put some homemade fabric flowers on it to make it more pimp. I turned out pretty cute.

this is after I painted it white with my plain old acrylic paint

my homemade fabric flowers, I basically just cut out "pedals" from white fabric and put a little button in the middle.

and then I glued them on the frame and this is how it turned out
Friday today!! Exciting. I usually start working at 10 on Fridays but I'm working late for the same family so we decided to bump up the time I started to 1, so I have the morning off. Feeling lazy of course and think I may just allow myself to be lazy...

Have a wonderful weekend. We're going garage sale hunting tomorrow. Can't wait!

growing garden

I'm off today which is nice after working so much lately. I had a lazy morning and then went to the garden for a visit. Our stuff is growing and it is so exciting. I took a bunch of pictures so here they all are:

Carrots in pretty rows....

A close-up of these sweet little veggies

One strawberry is turning red....

....but so many more is about to be. Yay!

Our straightneck squash is growing like crazy. So many on the way. The flowers are edible as well.

Tomatoes are on their way as well

The tomato and pepper plants

My potatoes are growing too.

My cucumber plant, parsley and mint + all the weeds that are growing around our beds..
Happy Cinco de Mayo by the way. Mexico's independence day I guess? (or just an American excuse to party?). We'll be having Mexican for dinner, YOU should too!

Have a great one!
